Mr. Schuman was lead counsel for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Project from inception through launch and operation, as well as the Roman Space Telescope, Hubble Space Telescope, and other projects of international significance. He spent nearly 35 years with the government, before moving to Vienna, Austria, to support his wife’s career. Mr. Schuman provided legal advice to senior officials at the Goddard Space Flight Center which has the nation’s largest combined concentration of scientists and engineers. Interesting clients included NASA’s first Nobel Prize winner. Detail assignments included work for a United States Senator, Executive Officer to NASA’s Chief of Staff, and Executive Officer to NASA’s Associate Administrator for Science. He has represented the IAU and NSS, at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. His current course at the University of Vienna School of Law is, “Recent Developments in International Space Law and National Space Law.”
