Jesus Luna is an undergraduate student in aeronautics and mechanical engineering at Mt. San Antonio College in Los Angeles, California. He has a strong passion for space exploration and rocket propulsion. He recently completed a research internship in planetary sciences at the SETI Institute in the National Science Foundation-supported Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) internship program. His REU research project was a search for candidate Artemis base camp sites at off-polar, high southern latitudes on the Moon. In the process of characterizing candidate sites, he co-discovered new pits and caves in Zucchius, a 64 km-diameter, 3.2 km-deep impact crater at 61.4°S on the lunar nearside. Jesus will be transferring to a 4-year university by Fall of 2026 to further pursue his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in planetary sciences. He aims to eventually work in space robotics and rocket propulsion, and contribute to the future human exploration of the Moon and Mars.
