Prof. Bernard H. Foing is President of Space Renaissance International, Executive Director of ILEWG, CEO of LUNEX EuroSpaceHub and EuroMoonMars Earth Space Innovation, and Chief Scientist at Qomosys. He holds an ERA Chair in Riga, Latvia, and is a guest professor at Leiden Observatory, ISU, and IPSA, and was formerly at EPFL and VU Amsterdam.
He is a member of several IAF committees, including IPC, space exploration, astronomy, space habitats, traffic management, and ITACCUS, where he is a former chair. He is the founder of ArtMoonMars and MoonGallery, a full member of the International Academy of Astronautics since 2010, Vice-Chair of the COSPAR planetary and PEX Panel on Exploration Panel, Co-Director of the IMA International Moonbase Alliance, founder of Moon Village and MVA, and EGU Space Instrumentation Officer.
Prof. Foing is a former ESA Chief Scientist, Senior Advisor to the Director General, Chair of the ESTEC Staff Association Committee from 2012 to 2017, and Lead Scientist of SMART-1. He has served as Co-Investigator on SOHO, XMM, BIOPAN, SMART-1, Mars Express, COROT, ISS/Expose, BIOMEX, ExoMars, and related missions.
He has authored 980 publications, including 240 refereed papers, and has edited 10 books. His academic background includes a Habilitation in 1990, work at CNRS, postdoctoral research as an astronomer at ESO European Southern Observatory in Chile, a PhD in astrophysics and space techniques with CNRS, Lockheed, SacPeak, Boulder, and Harvard, and qualification as Prof agrégé in Physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure ENSET Paris-Saclay.
