Scarlett Hartzman is a senior at New Rochelle High School and a student intern with Dr. Pascal Lee at the Mars Institute. Next year, she will be attending Carnegie Mellon University for Mechanical Engineering. In 2024, she was one of the youngest speakers at the Humans to Mars Summit, sharing her path to space research. She won the Grand Prize at the 2025 Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) and the ISEF New American Scholarship at the 2025 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This year, she has once again won the Grand Prize at WESEF and the opportunity to compete at ISEF in Phoenix, Arizona. Beyond academics, she is a cellist who performs annually at Lincoln Center as a member of the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestra Association (GWYOA), and she is president and founder of her school’s Crochet Club, which donates stuffed animals to local children’s hospitals.
